History of the building
The Courtesans in Venice: between pleasure and culture
Historically, the Palazzo of Corte Contarina was, a few centuries ago, the home of many Venetian courtesans.
Being courtesans in the sixteenth century in Venice meant not only offering your body to the most important men of society, with the aim of living in comfort, but also knowing how to read, write and entertain people with savoir faire: the courtesans had to be charming, cultured in many disciplines, from music to literature, from dance to politics.
These much desired female figures were not only muses of men of letters, but also of various painters, who, due to their beauty, used them as a subject to paint female figures.
Veronica Franco was one of the most famous Venetian courtesans in history.
Tiepolo Frescoes
The walls of the apartment are finely decorated with various reproductions of frescoes by the Venetian artist Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.
Tiepolo is considered the greatest Venetian painter of the seventeenth century and his works are still visible today in many Venetian churches and palaces.

Living room
The living area is an open space equipped with a comfortable sofa, a tea table and one for main meals. The wall of mirrors is decorated with over 35 antique mirrors dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries from different regions of Italy.
